Flixton Girl’s School – Manchester
We enlisted the help of Lynn Wilson with our new concept of Fitness Fridays to increase
physical activity of both staff and students and to raise awareness of health & well-being.
Lynn and her colleague Sharron have taken our idea and developed it into really useful different themes in order to maintain engagement and impetus and also in order to provide theory to go alongside the physical activity.
The impact of this has been phenomenal – we have 80% of the staff now physically active who were definitely completely inactive before.
The different activities has meant that staff can try new things and then go on to do these outside of school.
Staff absence has actually decreased by 50% which is amazing and has reduced the amount of money we spend on supply teachers and consequently meant that Teaching & Learning is much better.
As a school we are actually writing a national case study about Fitness Fridays with Lynn Wilson and hope to win a national ward at the Youth Sport Trust National Conference in 2015.
The students have nominated Lynn and Sharron for a ‘best coach’ award at our prestigious Sports Awards Evening in June this year and Beth Tweddle Olympic Gymnast will present these awards.
